Hoard to the Black Country?

It's hoped the Staffordshire Hoard could go on display in the Black Country, if a bid to keep it in the West Midlands is successful.

Dudley Museum and Art Gallery are supporting the campaign to raise the £3.3 million needed to buy the haul of Anglo-Saxon Gold (pictured, right), which was found in Brownhills last year.

Adrian Durkin is the Exhibitions Officer at Dudley Museum, who are currently holding their own exhibition about Anglo-Saxon period but he told Beacon he'd be delighted they could show off items from the hoard:

"We would absolutely love to see it come here, if we are able to get the hoard for the Midlands, which is the first hurdle to climb, and then it is just possible that perhaps there may be lesser items that may be available for general touring.

I think there are something like 1,500 objects, so  I am rather hoping that maybe they could think about having a touring exhibition for some of the less significant objects, so maybe these could go to other museums."

Dudley's own exhibition about the Anglo-Saxon era includes a video of the Staffordshire Hoard, but they also have their own artifacts on display, some of which you can see pictured below.
